This first step covers creating a gig title and choosing the category that your service will fall under.
1. Gig Title
This is the short description that quickly tells buyers what service you offer. You are only allowed 80 characters for your description. So, make it count. Be as clear and as concise as possible.
The gig title you choose will be the URL slug for that gig. So, make sure you think hard on the title. Because even though you can change the gig title later on, the gig URL will remain as when you first created the gig.
2. Category
This covers the general area under which you want your gig to be displayed. There are quite a few categories to choose from. Again, this should only be relevant to the gig you intend to offer.
If you offer graphic design services, don’t choose Writing and Translation as your category. It doesn’t make sense and won’t help you be found by persons searching for graphic design. Plus, you can’t modify it after you publish your gig.
The categories available in the drop-down menu are (at March 2020):
- Graphics & Design
- Digital Marketing
- Writing & Translation
- Video & Animation
- Music & Audio
- Programming & Tech
- Business
- Lifestyle
After you select your category, you then have the option of choosing a subcategory. This allows you to get even more specific with your gig classification.
Depending on the gig category and subcategory you choose, you will also be asked to select all or any of the following:
Service type
The Service Type feature is only available for specific categories. In the service type drop-down menu, you can choose the one that best fits your offerings. This also helps with how well your gig ranks when potential clients search.
Gig metadata
Also, only available for specific categories, the Gig Metadata allows you to select additional features specific to your offerings. For example, if you choose Writing and Translation as your main category and Articles & Blog Posts as the sub-category, you will get a gig metadata option like the one shown below:
You should make selections in all four areas to help improve the categorization of your gig and for SEO. A selection of Video Animation or Graphics and Design will offer different Metadata options based on the service you’re offering.
3. Search tags
You must include a minimum of one word or phrase that best describes your gig. But you’re allowed up to 5 search tags. So, make sure to use only relevant tags for your gig. When you start typing in tags, Fiverr will make suggestions from which you can choose the best one that suits you. Or, use the one that will be searched for that meets user intent.
Once you’ve completed all these sections, click save and continue. You’ll now move onto pricing.
4. Pricing
At pricing, you have two options – a simple gig that offers only one option. Or you can choose to offer 3 packages. The one you choose is up to the services you plan to offer that can scale.
The Pricing section may default to 3 packages. If you want to use only one, then turn off the 3 Packages option in the top right-hand section.
Filling in Pricing:
1. Name Your Package:
Insert a name for your package. You can reuse the Basic/Standard/Premium options that Fiverr uses. Or, you find a more attractive and brief title for your services like Silver, Gold Platinum.
2. Describe the details of your offering:
This is limited in characters, so make sure to be as concise yet impactful as possible.
3. Delivery Time:
Select how long you expect to take to complete the gig. Fiverr recommends that you deliver early to allow for any revision requests. So, you should also bear this in mind when choosing your delivery time.
4. Select Service Options:
Here, you’ll select the types of options you’ll be providing to clients. The options present are specific to the kind of service you initially chose. For example, if you had selected Logo Design, some of the predetermined list offerings include the number of logos, providing source files, or submission of a high-resolution file as part of the completion of the gig.
If you were to create a writing gig like below, some of the options are the number of words, number of focus keywords.
5. Revisions:
Here you can choose how many revisions will be included in your gig or each package.
6. Price:
Finally, insert the rate at which you intend to offer your services. This can range from $5 to $995. You set the value on your work based on your skills or experience.
How to use the 3 packages option on Fiverr:
The 3 Package option is only available for certain types of gigs. If you want to use those options, you can either click Try Now on the screen or turn on 3 pages at the top right. Take, for example, if you’re doing a logo creation gig. For the Basic gig, you can offer just 1 logo option. For the Standard package (middle-priced) which you offer at a higher price, you can offer 2 logo options with the source files. Then finally, the highest-priced package – Premium package – you offer 3 logo options, source files, and faster delivery date.
It’s similar for writing and other service gig packages. Offer more words or additional posts or add-ons at different price points. Or, higher prices mean faster delivery. There are many ways you can create your packages based on the extra services you want to offer for each.
You can also offer customized extra services. These will appear on the checkout page if you are using packages, or on the gig page for basic only gig options.
Fiverr Gig Extras
At the gig pricing section, you can offer Gig extras. Gig extras are additional services that buyers can order based on what they are ordering. For example, if you’re providing blog writing services, a Fiverr gig extra could be to write an email blast for the client’s email list about the blog post. Or, to provide social media posts to promote the blog post.
As with the categories section we discussed above, you may have different options for gig pricing depending on the Category and sub-category you chose.
Description & FAQs
You only have 1200 characters to describe your gig. Therefore, you need to be concise and compelling when you write your gig description. Don’t be in a haste to write your gig description. Think about what you want to offer, who will benefit from your services, and how you do it better than others.
If you’re stuck on what to write, you can always browse through other seller’s gig descriptions.
Things to avoid in your gig descriptions:
- Grammatical errors.
If you’re writing your own gig description, you can use a tool like Grammarly to check for spelling errors in your text. The Hemingway App can also help you to increase the readability of your Fiverr Gig Description.
- Plagiarism.
Never copy the text from another gig and use that as your own.
- Repeated use of your key terms.
Fiverr tries to prevent over-optimization of a gig description. So, make sure that you don’t use the main keyword too often. Find synonyms and other phrases that can explain your gig. The Fiverr algorithm will let you know if you over-optimized when you try to save the description and it won’t let you.
Things you should include in your gig description include:
- Highlights, bolded text, italics, bullet points
- Clear and concise descriptions and benefits of your particular service
- Important keywords to help your gig get found and understood
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
For all the details you didn’t have space for in your gig description, you can cover them here in the FAQ section.
You can easily re-order your FAQs by dragging them to the order that you think works best for you. So, think about what questions you would normally get asked about your service and answer them here. FAQs are also about selling your service. So, they should be written with that in mind.
Requirements
This section allows you to get the details you need from your buyers to ensure you can deliver the work they need.
Structure your Buyer Instructions as free text, a multiple-choice question or file upload
Indicate if the items you want are mandatory or not.
Gallery
Here, you can use a variety of methods to showcase your gig or highlight your service. You can add up to three gig images, 1 video, and 2 PDFs to your gigs.
Images
The first image you upload is the image that will show in search results on the Fiverr platform.
So, you want your image to do more than just look pretty. It’s supposed to help you sell. So, it can be a combination of text and images, or mostly text – your choice. But make it something that will stand out in a sea of search results.
You can create your own photos in a tool like Canva or Photoshop to include not just images but also text. If you need free stock photos to help you create your gig images, here are a few free stock photo websites that you could visit. Two of the most popular ones are Pexels and Pixabay. You can also do a Google image search with the rights filters turned on to find free-to-use images. Canva also provides stock photo options, free and paid (the latter at a reduced price for Canva Pro users.)
Video
According to Fiverr, gigs with videos get more engagement and conversions, as much as 40% more. You can choose to do a high-quality video of yourself or you can create a video of you doing the service offered in the gig. With a video, you can speak directly to potential customers. This is especially useful for Fiverr sellers who offer whiteboard or video editing/creation services.
If you upload a video, it will be the display ‘image’ for your gig in search results. So, make sure you set a nice video thumbnail. You can do so in Fiverr by pausing the video at the area you want to as the preview and click “set as preview”.
You can upload a PDF with either samples of your work, or more promotional material for your gig.
Hit Publish – It’s Time to Make Your Gig Live
Once you’ve filled in all the sections, it’s time to make your gig visible to potential clients on Fiverr. So, go ahead and hit Publish.
Now that you’ve created your Fiverr gig, it’s time to promote your gig and start bringing clients to you. You can share your gig via social media to help promote it. Other promotion methods include setting up a Facebook page, creating YouTube videos. Whatever medium is comfortable for you, use it to get the word out.
If you’re not ready to promote, just hit Done, and you’ll be taken to your gig management page. You can edit your gigs at any time. Just remember, even if you change the gig Title, your Fiverr gig URL for that gig will not update.
Congrats, you’ve successfully created, published, and promoted your Fiverr gig. Now, go and create others to sell your services and products.
